The Mau Forest Complex forms the largest closed-canopy forest ecosystem in Kenya and provides vital ecological services to the country such as regulation and purification of water sources; control of soil erosion and siltation; conservation of biodiversity; and regulation of micro-climate. The Government of Kenya has therefore through the financing it received from the UNDP & European commission channeled the funds to finance the implementation of the “Innovative Approaches towards Rehabilitating of Mau Ecosystem Project.”
The main objective of the project is to support the restoration of the Mau forest ecosystem and create a sustainable basis for its conservation and management as a multiple asset system, to the benefit of local, national and international stakeholders. The activities will be based in five Northern Mau Forest Blocks.
Specific objective of the project is to design a fully functional EMS for supporting rehabilitation and sustainable management of Mau Forest Ecosystem. For each environmental component, the consultant shall identify key indicators and parameters for monitoring.
