Kenya has five water towers namely, the Aberdares, Cherengany Hills, Mau Complex, Mt. Elgon and Mt. Kenya. Water towers provide various services including local climate regulation, habitat for flora and fauna, water regulation and purification, carbon sinks among others. Up to 75% of the country’s renewable surface water originates from these water towers.
The overall objective of the Programme is to support Kenya eradicate poverty through enhancing the productivity of ecosystem services of Kenya's critical ecosystems and enhance resilience to climate change of her water sources.
The purpose of the contract is to support the strengthening of the capacity of the ministry, implementing agencies and the implementing county governments to implement the various components of the programme.
This mission conducted had the main the purpose the fine tuning of the technical assistance to eleven countries to prepare grants proposal concerning climate change adaptation actions and the setting up of a participative forest based circular economy.
