The event took place at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation under the motto “CITYAIR – Cleaner Air, Better Life“. About 130 participants attended to the ceremony which was opened by Mr. Merhali ECER, the General Director of the Directorate of EU and Foreign Relations at the MOEU. Representatives from the EU Delegation as well as the Belgian and French Embassies also attended the event. Technical presentations were delivered by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization as well as the CITYAIR Project Technical Assistance Team. A short film introducing the subject of the environment and air quality was projected along with the launch of the project Website.
The overall objective of this technical assistance project is to support Turkey in its efforts to improve the quality of life of the citizens through the implementation and enforcement of the EU environmental acquis within the scope of ambient air quality.
The main purpose of the Project is threefold:
(1) to improve the capacity of the air emissions inventory system including tools used for AQ management together with AQ modeling, HEY Portal, GIS, and other IT as a whole;
(2) to update Clean Air Action Plans (CAAPs) for 31 cities located in the regions Southeast Anatolian, South Inner Anatolian, Aegean, Middle Black Sea and Mediterranean;
(3) to boost provincial emission abatement strategies and a package of measures supporting the improvement of the ambient air quality by raising awareness among the public.
